About Jessica Grand

My journey started when I was sweet sixteen.
I wanted to become a make-up artist and hair stylist, working for film, media and the opera.
Back then in Germany you had to be a hairdresser in order to do that job.
So I became a hairdresser.
I have to admit that the three years of education had been very hard.
As a trainee you have to do all the work that no one else wants to do: like cleaning, cleaning and oh yeah…cleaning!
After one year I have changed the training place. And that changed my world. It is so(!) important to have a good education at a place where your work is valued. I really want to thank my former boss Mr. Schalk for being the best educator at this time. After I finished my education I became a shop manager and educator myself. I was nineteen at that point. Soon I had two shops to manage and I became the leading trainer of the “Schalk Academy”, which won the “Education Oskar”. Here in three categories, awards are given for exemplary actions and concepts that create or maintain training places and promote the motivation of trainees.
To broaden my horizons I also worked with leading companies such as WELLA, SCHWARZKOPF, REDKEN and GLYNT. Mainly in training. There - and especially on the stage - I learned a lot about working to perfection and also found my love for doing Make-up.
In the following years I decided to return to school and do some studying. But during the time in university I always continued working as a hairdresser and make-up artist.
After that, I got the once in a lifetime chance to work as a creative director for a hairdresser company in Germany with more than hundred employees and twelve shops. It was the most challenging and creative time in my life until… fate brought me to Australia. Here in Melbourne I finally decided to found my own business. I was very lucky to meet the fabulous Joanna Blair, one of Melbournes best make-up artists. We did training together (and still do), and I met a lot of very inspiring women in the industry I hope to work with for a long time.
As for my business philosophy I hope to be more than “just” another make-up artist.
